in the action stage are changing their behavior, experiences, or environment
in order to overcome the problem. This requires overt behavioral changes
and a considerable commitment of time and energy. People in this stage
need positive reinforcement and support for continuing their tobacco

in the maintenance stage are working to prevent relapse and consolidate
the gains achieved during action. For an addiction like tobacco dependence,
this stage extends from six months onward past the initial action.
People in this stage need positive reinforcement and encouragement
to maintain their healthy behavior. |
