Precontemplator

Precontemplators have no plans to quit tobacco in the foreseeable future and may be unaware of the problem. People in this stage should be encouraged to think about quitting.

Here is an example of advice you could give to a precontemplator:

“I understand that you are not ready to quit smoking. It is your choice and no one can force you to do it. However, I would like you to start thinking about how smoking affects your life and your health. Quitting smoking will immediately improve your health.

Other benefits include a better sense of smell and taste, better physical ability, and fewer skin wrinkles. You will also feel better about yourself, set a good example for children, and save money.”
