Bupropion SR
 

Bupropion SR is an antidepressant, and is the first non-nicotine medication shown to be effective for smoking cessation and approved by the FDA for that use.

Its contraindications are: patients with a seizure disorder; current or prior diagnosis of bulimia or anorexia nervosa; use of another medication containing bupropion; or use of a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor within the previous 14 days.

It can be used in combination with nicotine replacement therapies, though it is available exclusively by prescription.

Nicotine patches
