Pipes:

Little information is available on the addictiveness of pipe smoking. However, use of pipes can lead to lung cancer with risk increasing as the duration of pipe smoking or consumption increases. Pipe smokers are eight times more likely than non-smokers to develop lung cancer.

In addition to increasing one's risk for lung cancer, pipe smoking has similar detrimental effects as cigarette smoking on periodontal health, including gingivitis, tooth loss, and periodontitis.

Counseling users
Counseling pipe smokers is similar to counseling cigarette smokers. For more information on counseling, please refer to the "Counseling" section.
